Finding the Hoku point

Hoku is everywhere, because so is light, energy and healing! But I didn't know we shared a close connection to acupuncture.

I stumbled upon an article that introduced the Hoku point, which was 'coincidentally' discovered not long after learning some acupressure points for labour and birth.

Acupuncture and acupressure are helpful healing methods and places to turn to with health and well being. So, stay tuned for more info in future posts and interactions. But let's start with the Hoku connection.

The Hoku Point - 合谷

This point is also known as the LI4 or the Large Intestine 4 point. This pressure point is located on the mound between the bones of your thumb and index finger. You can find it by putting your thumb and index finger together (thumb on the back of your hand and index on the inside of your hand). With a moderate amount of pressure, you can hold this point for up to a few minutes, or until their is a sense of relief. Remember to try both hands.

The hoku point can be wonderful for pain anywhere in the body but, especially anything to do with the face or head. It can be used for headaches tooth pain, abdominal pain, arm pain, chronic pain, etc. This point has an overall soothing and calming affect.

-Remember all acupuncture and acupressure points have many uses and can be for many conditions, symptoms and energy areas.

Using the Hoku point (LI4) and LV3 in combination, can greatly move stagnant energy, improving the circulation of Qi/Chi and blood. This can alleviate pain, and help to balance your energy flow.

The Hoku Doula Point

When in labour or trying to induce labour, this acupressure point can be very helpful. Even though this point can be helpful, it shouldn't be used during pregnancy. By pressing on this spot it stimulates the uterus, which can induce premature labour, but when used at the right time, the Hoku point can help stimulate efficient contractions, aiding the descent of the baby. LI4 promotes labour and can help with general pain relief. It can also be used for a retained placenta.

This can be a great tool to add to your labour and birth, if it feels right for you!

Energy Hug!
